‘The Hednesford Road Happening’ – Part 1.

Very much akin to the previous post on this blog, some cases will eventually strike you as fairly ‘distant’ – chronologically speaking – and somewhat ‘settled’, as far as reported activity is concerned…  However, at times, something will occasionally appear – ‘fresh’ data will suddenly surface – which instantly brings everything back to the fore again… and seems to add whole, new dimensions to something that you might have assumed was probably ‘long finished’…?

In this instance, the year in which the ‘case first began’ is exactly the same as that of the previous – now seemingly re-energised – post too!  However, while this newer post will be reasonably convoluted, the overall topic happens to be SO tangled… I thought it probably best to post the story up in segments and lay out the proceedings concerned over a small cluster of blog posts, for the purpose of easier digestion.

And so…  Back at the beginning of 2003, the W.M.G.C. were made aware of a somewhat disturbing case, involving a location in the North-West region of Brownhills, in Walsall.  The initial incident involved was a fairly complex experience, so, for the sake of brevity in this overall piece – which, in itself, will be somewhat ambling – I shall skim for the sake of brevity…

The story begins with a woman and 3 male friends walking back from the house of an acquaintance - about 12.30 to 1.00 in the morning – along the Hednesford Road, at the Western side of Chasewater lake and railway.  As they strolled along, chatting, members of the group happened to look around, in the direction that they had come from… spying a figure in the distance.

However… something about this struck them as bizarre straight away: the ‘man’ that they all saw seemed wholly disproportionate in size… appearing not at all physically ‘in proportion with’ the distance he was away from them?  It was much larger – for the distances involved – than it clearly should have been, or appeared?  He was also travelling at great speed – much faster than anyone could humanly run?  One of the witnesses – the female group member - explained to me:

“When people run they naturally ‘bob up and down’, in a running motion, but this thing didn't - it had no ‘natural’ motion to it at all. It ‘hovered’.... hard to explain in words, but it was the scariest thing that I and the other people who were with me have ever seen… This thing wasn’t human! I don't think I've ever seen three grown men openly panic the way that they did that night...”

In questioning witnesses to great length, I’d clearly noticed that considerable emphasis was put on the appearance and movement of the figure… as well as the sensations / feelings that were directly ‘emanating from’ – or, at least ‘conjured up by’ - the form…?

Again, it had been suggested that the figure was ‘male’, though, because of the time of the morning involved and general lack of light, no clear idea of clothing, features, etc, could really be gleaned.  The only detail that was quite blatantly apparent, however, was the fact that ‘it’ appeared to have a ‘mane of long hair’ that ‘blew around wildly’ as it had approached…

With regards to its actual movement, the form – as mentioned – was initially seen at a considerable distance from the group and proceeded to ‘glide’ after them, not run, along the dead-straight road, at incredible speed.  This speed was said to be much faster than a human could possibly move without some form of motorised transport.

Despite not running though, the arms of the figure were seen to move in a fashion entirely ‘indicative of’ a person in the process of running… but the movements struck as ‘angry’ and unnaturally ‘jerky’ in nature?  By way of explanation as to what was meant here, a reference was made to certain special effects in movies – such as the popular ‘Blade’ series of films – where character attributes were visually and unnaturally emphasised to suggest great speed or enhanced powers of some kind…

Of key importance in the overall scenario – especially in relation to further date only just gleaned – was the fact that the witnesses professed to have been completely overwhelmed by the sense of pure EVIL that they had ‘felt from’ the figure.  In short, all were utterly convinced that they, had this form eventually caught up with them, would die!  All said that they had never felt such complete and utter dread in their lives before – a sensation which, they believed, far transcended the basic horror of ‘witnessing something terrifying’…  They strongly suggested that such dire impressions actually ‘emanated from’ the figure itself!?

Luckily, for the group, this feeling of mortal terror was never put to the test, as, suddenly - along the dark road - a car appeared… traveling in the opposite direction to that which the figure was approaching from.  With only seconds before the form would inevitably reach the position of the group, the headlights of the approaching car lit up the scene… and the menacing figure was no longer there!?

The bizarre experience had abruptly ended…!

Greatly intrigued by such a stunning account, visits were immediately made to the locality involved and a friend in the local press was contacted.  Media appeals frequently bore fruit in this kind of scenario and a couple of articles soon appeared, asking for any ‘strange stories’ related to this general region…

More to follow... soon!
